Here goes my story...
Being a paypal accountholder, I received an email invitation last August 14, 2010 to become a member of hopshopgo, an online shopping website exclusive to Paypal Customers. I was so excited and immediately signed up. Hopshopgo offers the following services:
- Ship for me: Hopshopgo will take care of your delivery arrangements from the merchant in the US to your desired location.
- Buy for me: They can shop for you in any US website. This solved my problem since I do not have a US-issued credit card. I purchased a pair of shoes and requested it to be delivered to my father's US address.
- On August 14, 2010, they immediately charged the transaction to my Paypal Account.
- August 16, 2010 - they acknowledged that the package may be delivered to the US address. Later on that day, they also informed me that my order has been processed.
- August 26, 2010 - I made a follow up thru their LiveChat. The agent told me that it is out for delivery tomorrow to the US address.
- August 26 - September 1, 2010 - I have sent a total of 4 follow ups thru email but received no reply at all.
- September 6, 2010 - I was finally informed that they can no longer send the package to a US address due to fraud cases. This policy took effect 2 weeks ago, according to the Customer Service Manager.
- September 6, 2010 - The Customer Service Manager arranged the package to be delivered to my Philippine address as I had left with no other choice. They already charged 11USD to my Paypal account for shipping. Accdg to the Manager, "Here's the only thing we can do. We can ship the package to the Philippines or return the package to the merchant. We can no longer offer shipping within the US."
- September 10, 2010 - I received a call from DHL. For the pair of shoes with an invoice of 23USD, Philippine Duties and Taxes is Php2000. I argued that 200% taxes is not right, and the nightmare is far from over. They are now asking me to submit a notarized affidavit stating that the pair of shoes is only for personal consumption. Then, Customs will re-evaluate the duties and taxes.
Do not hopshopgo! They have the worst Customer Service!

NOT WORTH IT IF YOU LIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES. I bought several items with a total weight of 4.5 kilos, I got charged for 7 kilos, paid $90+ for shipping and then I had to pay P1500 ($35) for DHL's delivery charges (including taxes).
ReplyDeleteThe BuyForMe was nice. I can buy what I want without a US credit card but the shipping charges are highway robbery for me. I'm better off had I used other forwarders but I was tempted by the 2kg free delivery promo. >_<
Thanks for the info... Pobox..com.ph is way better according to my cousin...
